Challenge 2011, Musical memories
Meant to suggest LARGE might be worthwhile, they don't make them like this nowadays!
Totally lacking in inspiration and inclination these days. haven't used the camera much this week. So had a look at this week's challenge. " Memories" , perfect as I had been clearing the boxes I'd taken from the loft ages ago. What to blip? Old photos, magazines. the "children's" news book from school ( 35 years old) , Couldn't do that to them.
Found the box with all the old football programmes and old singles. reckoned I had blethered on enough about football recently so picked out some of the singles.
Again spoiled for choice so narrowed them down to five. For a background I used my guitar which I have had for over forty years , so many memories from my college days in that old guitar and the tone is still amazing. ( note I said the tone, not my playing ). The Kinks single was a favourite and it was also the first piece of sheet music I bought in Mc Cormack's music shop . sadly now also a memory as they closed down earlier this year. I als have great memories of seeing them perform at the Kelvin Hall arena.
The others also mark different times and phases of my life, " The Runaway Train " was always on Saturday morning radio , Uncle Mac's children's Favourites when we were children. . We bought this record for our own children .
The " Calendar Song " was played every year for many years on the Tiger Tim radio show for our oldest on , or near her birthday until she begged us age 11 not to request it ever again !
The Donovan single reminded me of all the protest type songs we used to sing , some of them must surely relate to the " Occupy " protests today.
Finally the Bee Gees soong was a great favourite , that and " Words" were particular favourites, so poignant now that Robin Gibb is so ill.
So there you have a potted version of some of our musical tastes and memories . off course John always put his initials on his singles to make sure they came back to him. Didn't always happen.
