Mary's Children
If there is a child in the vicinity, then Mary will make a connection. So it was this evening when we visited a women's, self help, micro enterprise group in Mchanguatua.
We sat in a lovely sittingroom with a neighbourhood of furniture to attend a weekly group meeting. We sat with twenty amazing women who are dragging themselves out of the most amazing deprivation by the sheer willpower.
Even though they have tiny sporadic incomes, they have managed to save, and lend each other 75,000 Malawi Kwacha, their newly found incomes coming from small business ventures. This is a truly remarkable achievement in just 10 weeks, without any external input. Most of their children go to the local preschool we fund and the recent picture showed them in their new garden. They also come to our Adult Education classes three times a week.
We are happy to be associated with the progress they have made in two years.
Maybe this is the real Sisters doing it for themselves
