Spielberg meets TinTin

in 3D of course.

I have to say, I think this film is a resounding success. The story, although an amalgamation of three of Herge's original books, still made sense and it was good to see a film with a plot - a welcome development which seems to be seeping it's way back into current cinema.

The film makes excellent use of live action performance capture which is then fed through the computer animation mill and pops out the other end looking not dissimilar to Herge's comic book drawings. Add in 3D and the film becomes immersive.

Jamie Bell plays TinTin, but I think this film, the first of a trilogy, belongs to Captain Haddock played by Andy Serkis who provides many of the good laughs along the way. The present Mr Bond, Daniel Craig, plays the villain Red Rackham, alias Sakharine. His make-up is so good, I had a hard time visualising Craig beneath the beard. Simon Pegg hilariously makes up one half of the Thomson and Thomson bungling detective twins.

The film was written by Steven Moffat who is now chief writer of Dr Who, directed by Stephen Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson, so quite a winning combination. If you can spare the time this half term, I would recommend watching this film, preferably in 3D. For someone who honestly fell asleep in each of the Harry Potter movies, I can say, there was not a moment in this film where I had even half a chance to squeeze in a yawn.

The photo is of Emma wearing her 3D specs, holding her classes Charley bear, which she is tasked to take places this half term and then report back to class with photos next week.
