Olympic Dreams
Today was a big day for me, an interview to become a volunteer at London 2012. The job, "Spectator Entry Team Member" so I will be dealing directly with the public, making sure they get to where they need to be. It's sort of like being a local Councillor....which I am! and dealing with their problems.
The interview was in one of the big towers at Canary Wharf, 19 floors up, fine, actually not so fine was finding out the interview pods were right next to the floor to ceiling windows, I hate heights. I managed to ignore my fears and concentrate on the task in hand, give a good account of myself in order to get the job.
The interview went really well and I think I demonstrated all the qualities they were looking for. What was slightly "worrying" was that the Games Maker partner for the day was McDonalds.... Yes, good old Ronald was going to interview me, hmmmm what do we all think of when we think of McDonalds staff? probably spotty students and stressed managers having to deal with a high turnover of staff. Apparently they have the experience of interviewing lots of people and being able to identify what they are good at. Actually it was well organised and the questions were relevant. Anyway I won't be wearing a red and yellow uniform but an official Olympic uniform, hopefully.
This photo is from the John Lewis store at the new Westfields shopping centre and overlooking the site, still a bit to do but 90% complete. I looked out and couldn't really believe I could potentially be part of this fantastic event and a "once in a lifetime opportunity" Not only that but I've also been down selected to be a torch bearer, that really would be amazing.
Not satisfied with that I will be running in next years London Marathon which I think will be taking in some of the the official race course for the Olympics.
And then to cap it all we have tickets for the final session of Paralympic athletics events in the Olympic stadium and then the closing ceremony the following day.
I will then be taking a long holiday ;-)
