How's this for service? We walked into the phone shop this morning and in under half an hour my broken phone (see yesterday's blip) was being sent to be repaired for the bargain price of no more than 5,000 yen AND I had a loan phone until my old one comes back. Happy days!

How's this for polite but ultimately frustrating service? After the phone shop I went to a famous furniture company's showroom to check out a desk I had seen on their online store. To get in I had fill in my name and address, listen to a speech about the shop, read two A4 sheets about the shop, and fill in a short questionairre. I then went up to the floor with desks to be told that the desk I'd seen was only available on the internet so wasn't in the showroom. Turn round and back down the stairs where I got accosted for my telephone number before I could get out of the building.

The good and bad sides of service in Japan all in one day!
