If a chimpanzee wins a fight he often consolidates his victory by mating with the now submissive male opponent. He does not do this because the loser has been evil. He does it because he wishes to assert his own dominance.

Irrespective of religious belief or indeed of wider culture, I believe that something is lost when men and women attempt to justify similar use of this power.
