What a shambles!
We were in York today at the special request of Alex. Mind you he thinks that the National Railway Museum IS York and is not merely in York. We did that bit first and had lunch there before going into the city centre to show the kids a little bit more of York than they perhaps appreciated before today.
I have to say that they did not appear to be too impressed, so we might have to give it a few years yet before they appreciate the surroundings. Becky liked this visit to the world famous Shambles as we pointed out that the buildings are a good likeness to those in London pre-Great Fire and as she had done the Great Fire of London as a topic at school last year, she could understand this issues with fire spreading so quickly between houses that were almost touching in places.
Apart from the very slow bus journey back to the Park and Ride and the torrential downpour on the A1 as we returned to Clumber Park, it was a good day out.
