Clywedog Valley

This valley was changed for ever in 1964 when they started building the Clywedog dam, the highest concrete dam in Britain.

Where's the dam, you ask.

Here it is!

It's an impressive stucture.

We walked to the Bryntail lead mine below the dam. As we were leaving a lady ran past on the way up the hill to get a mobile phone signal. She told us someone had just broken their leg scrambling around the workings of the lead mine, which we had been exploring only minutes before.

About 10 minutes later, out of nowhere, came the air ambulance. A quick circle and a rapid descent into a narrow valley and a tight landing spot and he was down. I think he was impressed with himself as he took a few pictures of the helicopter in situ.

Now, if he was on blipfoto!

Here are a few shots of the helicopter above the lead workings.

Entirely funded by charitable donations. They do a great job and would have enabled the patient to get to Shrewsbury, the nearest large hospital, very quickly. The road based paramedics arrived at the same time. I bet they get a bit naffed off when Buzz descends in his shiny chopper!

It's only a matter of time before The Untrained Eye opens a bottle of wine!
