Conflux: Folly

In June, the excellent Ionnature introduced me to the British sculptor Sean Henry via her blip of the Lying Man, taken in Grand Rapids MI, a very lifelike but double-size statue. I discovered that his next major exhibition was going to be at Salisbury Cathedral, and resolved to go.

With just a few days to go before the event was over, I made it to Salisbury on Sunday and after a tour of Mompesson House NT, we crossed Chorister Close to the cathedral grounds and encountered the sculptures, spread across the grounds and cloisters, and in and on the cathedral itself, and very splendid they were.

This blip is a section of piece called Folly (The Other Self), described thus:

"A skeletal building becomes the home - or stage - for a sculptural installation. Inside a man is sleeping as a second version of himself stands nearby; we see him a third time as a drawing on the only solid wall in the structure, while a transparent wheel-back chair floats in mid air. The viewer is invited to become part of this surreal theatre of life, to walk through the work & contemplate the significance of a life lived."

As I walked through the structure I'm afraid I forgot to contemplate the significance of a life lived, but I did take some pictures, all viewable on the set linked to below.
