Too Many Orchids
Is that possible? Yup. Especially when it is repotting time.
Fortunately, and I mean that sincerely, this was not taken in my greenhouses! I am out of that business (even though I still have more than 1000 plants.) This is part of the Phalaenopsis section at Hausermanns' nursery called Power Plant in DeLand, FL. Their yearly event Orchtoberfest is this weekend. Lots of other growers set up tents outside as well for this sale. It is a true problem for those of us who are recovering orchidoholics.
I kidded George H., Jr. about how much fun it is to repot overgrown Cattleyas for us who no longer do it professionally. But it is still a major effort. He laughed, bent over and wheeled out a 20 ft. long, 4 ft. wide cart of plastic bins with "bare root" Cattleyas to demonstrate that his problem was bigger than mine. So, of course, I bought a bin of 15 huge plants "to help him out." I think he was thrilled to lighten his schedule. You never get over the addiction to orchids whether you are doing it for a living or just "having fun."
