Sanctuary of the Aphrodite

Today was all about starting to explore more of Cyprus, and we mostly spent time in Pafos and the surrounding area. The last stop of the day was the Sanctuary of the Aphrodite. The Sanctuary has been a religious site for a variety of different religions since 1500BC.

There is a tremendous amount to see at the site, from mosaics and original stone work though to relics in the museum. The architecture and layout of the Sanctuary is fairly sparse and is very reminiscent of a Sergio Leone film in looks.

This photo is one of the original pillar stones that was used in the temple. We were somewhat taken with the fact that the stone looked like a skull, if you look at in the right way
