Beat

Someone is out now seeing a preview screening of The Help. Someone else gets to go out later to see a film that I loved on release back in 1996, a film that really divided opinion, although most people I know that hated it did so because they found it all a bit silly rather than offensive.

Bit of a controversial one at the time I remember and I was working at the cinema in Edinburgh that showed it. I used to do all the front of house displays in those days and boy did I go to town for that one. This was all very hands-on work involving photocopies, lighting gels, scalpels, cuting mats and a staple gun. I used to put loads of effort in to produce stuff that would be a doddle to knock-up these days. It helped that I was a huge David Cronenberg fan and the inspiration came easy, especially when there was so much tabloid outrage to draw upon. Corrupt! Morally bankrupt! And the infamous phrase - Beyond Depravity!

I digressed wildly. Baking with the girls is always good fun. Especially with some good sounds on the kitchen stereo to accompany us. I sometimes ask them what type of music we're listening to and sometimes they get it bang on, although for some reason neither of them can remember the word 'reggae'.

So this morning -

"What type of music do you think this is?"
"Jazz"
"Very good, how do you know it's jazz though?"
"Because it's got a jazzy beat"

Can't argue with that kind of reasoning. This was the jazz in question
