O Sweet And Lovely Wall
We went to another lunchtime concert at Heriot Watt today, David Allison demonstrated how a simple ukelele or a guitar can, with the aid of clever simultaneous electronic loops and an ebow, sound like an electric guitar, something from the BBC radiophonic workshop or a glass harmonica.
Afterwards, by way of exploration of the campus, we checked out the ground opposite the carpark and found a walled garden. We noticed that the bricks in the wall were laid in English Garden Wall bond, which is a pattern of three courses of stretchers to one of headers. However, the bricks were not as thick as modern sizes so we wondered just how old the garden was. I think it likely that it was built as part of improvements made by Sir James Gibson-Craig in 1827 when the house was remodelled but I am happy to be corrected. The garden is now another carpark.
PS I notice my Falls Of Braan has 8 stars! Thank you, I'm really chuffed.
