Monument

A view up the Monument in the City of London.

It marks the start of the great fire of London in 1666.

Architecturally it marks the beginning of Wrens rebuild of the city, St Paul's Cathedral and dozens of now almost hidden churches. The shame of the city is that many of these are now lost or hidden by poor planning and design of the buildings around - certainly dwarfed into a passive non-existence.
