Sunbeams

Another dawn

Dawns and sunsets are quickies really as they are so easy to take. Our house faces south so one is at either end taking the sun rising or the sun setting.

Those pale objects in the foreground look like sheep but they are round bales resting on the ground. We have no space in the barns for them at the moment.

Talking of sheep, we had 120 arrive and we expect another hundred or so, from a very large farmer the other side of Chard. They will graze our grassfields for the next few months fertilising and disposing of the rubbishy vegetation as they go so when the spring arrives we should have some healthy tidy grass fields! Some years ago we used to over-winter sheep from Wales from the Brecon Beacons. They arrived in large articulated lorries and a local person took on the responsibility of looking after them while they were in Somerset until the time came for them to return to Wales.

T took the two mother cats to the vets this morning to be neutered free of charge this month by courtesy of the Cats Protection League. We shall give the charity something back for their kindness. Unfortunately one of them had to be put down as her bad eye was even worse. The two younger ones we are keeping go in tomorrow morning. They are easier to handle because we have almost tamed them. If they survive we shall just have three cats which is a good number for the farm. There is a serious problem with cat numbers in this country and even some of the animal sanctuaries are turning unwanted cats away as they have too many to look after.
