ST KILDA MEMORIES

Blip-browsing takes a person on many a detour, and between them, John R Smith with a bookshelf of Scottish tomes, an old cynic's view with a copy of a favourite book about St Kilda; and then finding that An Evolution spent five weeks there, all transported me back to a memorable trip G and I took in 2009.

We only went for one day, on a fast boat from Leverburgh on Harris, but the day will stay with me all my life. The island is both magical and awesome; the views from the tremendously high cliffs are staggering, and walking amongst the abandoned houses in Village Bay was an incredible experience.

I recently made a photo book of my pictures from that day, and am so pleased with the result. A book I can leaf through and remember. The drying up cloth, which has been too much used, has now been rescued from the kitchen to join the mementoes and photographs of our holiday for posterity.
