The back of my mind

Girl Power!

My daughter 'helped' me to hang some pictures today in her newly pink room. In the last few months she has become very set in her gender stereotypes. She tells me that pink is for girls (I tell her pink is my favourite colour, but she seems to take this as the exception that proves the rule). When there's adverts on kids TV she greets the ones for cars, robots etc. with disgusted cries of, 'That's not for me!' Whereas Barbie and the like elicit excited yelps of, 'That's for me!'

I am therefore trying - not very successfully - to counteract this by getting her to do some DIY type stuff. I even let her loose with the hammer. My heart was in my mouth, especially as I was holding the nail!

Thanks to people for their supportive comments yesterday. I'd like to assure you that I'm not having a nervous breakdown. I'm just a bit tired (and I'm good at moaning!) Hooray for half term next week!
