Name That Bird
Among other things in Friday's Rambling Blip I mentioned we'd seen an Isabelline Shrike. Well actually it was reported as being an Isabelline Shrike or possibly a Daurian Shrike, or possibly a Turkestan Shrike.
Now yesterday and today there was an Isabelline Shrike or possibly a Daurian Shrike, or possibly a Turkestan Shrike reported at Cliffe Pools RSPB in Kent, from 14:15 yesterday it became a Daurian Shrike. For those interested in the taxonomy differences try reading The new taxonomy of the "Isabelline Shrike" Lanius isabellinus complex - with notes on racial identification. Let's just say that RCB's sticking with the generic Isabelline Shrike.
Today we've booked a week on Islay - really looking forward to that - loads of geese, plus we'll be able to study the taxonomic differences between White-fronted Geese (Eurasian & Greenland), Canada Geese (Greater & Small) and Brent Geese (Dark-bellied & Pale-bellied) Mmmm, perhaps it'll get clearer once I've mastered the differences between Lagavulin, Ardbeg , Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Bruichladdich - Aye, there's a plan.
