One A Day 2011

Something in the air

There's something in the air. It's a buzz, a nervousness, an excitement. People are talking, whispering quietly, daring to believe. Wales have set the rugby world cup alight. They have been the outstanding team in the tournament and suddenly the rest of the world are taking notice. From their opening game in which they pushed South Africa, the reigning world champions, within an inch of their lives, they have played a brand of rugby that has been fresh, exhilarating and, above all, world class. And yes, of course I'm biased. But these are not my words but words of rugby pundits, fans and journalists the world over.

Tomorrow we play Ireland in the quarter final. It's a huge game. Ireland have already beaten Australia in this tournament. But there's something special about this Welsh team. They have the perfect mix of youth, experience, skill and confidence. People are muttering things about Wales and the world cup final. Surely not? I just can't let myself believe it. Yet.
