The Unknown Soldier

A familiar statue from my childhood, still standing on top of the war memorial in King Edward's Square, Sutton Coldfield.

As a child I'm not sure I appreciated the concept of a grave to an unknown solider, how important this could be for grieving relatives and friends. Nor did I appreciate the workmanship of this fine statue.
