XM655 - Wellesbourne

Had a really good visit to Wellesbourne today to visit the MaPS (Maintenance and Preservation Society) for Avro Vulcan XM655.
The tour included a standing demo of aircraft functions such as Bomb Bay Doors opening and closing, Navigation Lights, Landing Lights (which pop down from underneath the wing, Air Brakes, Ailerons and Rudder, anything that can move other than the undercarriage or it would have fallen flat onto the ground!

An underwing tour taught me a huge amount that I did not know before, engine cowlings were open so it could all be pointed out and explained as was the bomb bay doors (they've recently add an actual bomb rack, holds 7 x 1000lb bombs and up to three racks can be fitted = 21 x 1000lb which was the payload taken to the Falklands on the Black Buck missions).

Included a cockpit tour as well with any, and all, questions fully explained. Absolutely brilliant tour which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
