Cannery Row
Had to blip this, a highlight of the holiday for me as John Steinbeck's books have been a big part of my reading life and I loved seeing the places that inspired him. The Salinas Valley and Monteray especially are places his books are set and I loved seeing Cannery Row and what remains (not a lot as it happens) of the kind of life he wrote about.
We also went to Carmel this day and though it was pretty (very, very pretty) it was also a little too aware of how lovely and well off it was for us.
We liked the bustle and the rags and riches stories of Monteray more. This blip shows Cannery Row, pretty touristy now, more folk buying T shirts and seafood from 'Bubba Gump' than anything. But full of life still.
