Cormorant by the Thames
Spotted this fellow hanging around with a grey heron on a tree on the bank of the Thames in Clifton Hampden, near Oxford. We first thought it was a melanistic heron but as we saw him drying his wings a bit later in a typical cormorant fashion, we changed our mind. A bit of research seems to suggest sightings of cormorans in land are getting more common and herons don't dry their wings in a cormorant fashion. A cormorant it is then!
