Hibs v Motherwell :: Purple Patch is over

Unfortunately, the main talking point of the day on yet another frustrating afternoon at Easter Road was the new purple 'third' strip. Not that I wish to dwell on it, but we now have now marketed more strips this season than we have had league wins. I think perhaps this says something about what is wrong with my team right now.

Once again Hibs defence was highly suspect, conceding an early soft goal to Motherwell in just the 8th minute. Motherwell dominated for the bulk of the first-half, with Hibs keeper and man-of-the-match Graham Stack almost single-handedly keeping the scoreline at 0-1.

A couple of attacking substitutions - and sterling performance from Ian Murray - produced a slightly improved performance from the home team in the second half. Hibs did start to create more chances, but somehow it was never going to be their day.

The photo shows momentary confusion in the Motherwell box in the 70th minute - followed a loud shout for handball - which did look valid, at least from my seat, high in the East Stand; I'd still like to see the replay. This may have resulted in a penalty on any other day - or for another team. But yet again, Hibs could not muster the fight to deserve a win, and in a now familiar pattern, the team left the field to a chorus of boos from the home support, mostly aimed at manager Colin Calderwood.
