Nice Rhea
In Spanish, it's a Nandu, and Portuguese, an Ema. In English, it is a Rhea, one of the Rattite family of flightless birds, which includes Ostriches, Emus, Cassowary and the Kiwi.
This family has been around since Pangea was the only land mass in the world, coming from the southern part called Gondwanaland, which eventually broke up and forms what is now Australasia, South America and Antarctica. This would have been about 500 million years ago.
There were two of these Rhea in the animal rescue farm that Emma and I went to today - they were very curious birds, immediately coming across their paddock to meet and greet us, sticking their heads through the wire to get a closer look.
We had a great time, Emma especially liking the sheep and ponies, oh and the huge rabbits and pigs and goats, turkeys... .... ...
