Slime Mould
Took a walk across the golf-course in the soft dampness this morning, looking for wild fungi. Along with some colourful waxcaps, I came across this - a "slime mould" . Once thought to be fungi, but now classified with primitive animals, they are fascinating organisms with a complex life cycle which involves dramatic changes in structure. If you handle them carefully, you can keep them as "pets", feed them peanut butter, and watch the changes.
