Beetlemania

What a surprise I got when this sexton beetle appeared to drop from the ceiling. I stood on it but didn't kill it and lifted it up with a piece of paper and managed to get this shot before I took it outside and disposed of it.

The book says " Often found by turning over animal carcasses. Buries corpses of small animals and birds on which eggs are laid and larvae feed. Attracted to light. Widespread."

I am glad it is dead now.
