To Sète

View from the Musée Paul Valéry in Sète, through venetian blinds, across the sailors' cemetery where the poet Paul Valéry is buried, with the ferry from Algiers just coming into port. We were there to see the exhibition of works by the cubist artist Juan Gris, followed by a very Sètois lunch by the port: gratin of scallops in their shells, moules farcies à la sétoise (mussels in their shells stuffed with meat in a tomato sauce) and a bottle of viognier white wine from nearby Marseillan.

An hour on the beach on the way home. The water was warmer than earlier in the week, although the air temperature was cooler, and it was probably our last swim of the year. A really lovely day with C, tinged with sadness as it's my sister's birthday - she would have been 57 today.
