Lucky Gate
We left N's aunt's house just before lunch and drove over the foggy moor trying to avoid sheep and cattle once again and through Princetown to the southern side where the sun was shining! We caught a glimpse of a heron standing in the swollen waters of the Dart and then stopped at the Church House, Holne, for lunch just off the moor and a couple of miles from Buckfast Abbey. This village is very familiar to us as my grandmother and uncle lived just down the hill from here.
This is where the village petrol pump once stood and when that closed down a young couple moved in. The husband ran a forge and the wife the tea room but it looks as if it has now been converted into a private house. The horseshoes that form the gate are obviously some of R's leftovers!
