One of our hens has been behaving very eccentrically - skreking into the garden and skreking out again at top speed. All explained today as she returned with a chick. Quick call to Northern to borrow some chick crumbs. I think the local cats had already taken their pick of any other chicks she had which is very sad but our lone survivor will be cosseted and spoiled. Since it is eldest child's turn to name a hen it will be known as 'Tweety'. I couldn't reallly say whether this is a good idea or not since middle child named the last one Aphrodite ...
