Couch Potatoes In Black
While I always try to post a more interesting blip than this, I didn't see anything so unusual or go anywhere new this time. I minded my friends' five cats while they're out of town, and fell quite in love with this sweet boy name Maguire. When he was rescued as a baby he had a sister, and she was named Molly.
The Molly Maguires were immigrant Irish miners (mostly Donegalese, speaking that specific language) who formed a secret society to pretect themselves and their rights in Northeastern Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region in the 1870s. In the end they were infiltrated by a Pinkerton detective and many were arrested and hanged, sometimes within sight of their homes and families. Much of the history has been lost, but it is very clear that the Mollies were framed in retaliation for their long-term union activities and those of Irish Catholic miners in general.
But little Maguire here does not dig coal, nor is he on death row. He and I watched the Coen Brothers film "Lady Killers" together, although he purred himself to sleep and missed most of the fun. I cooked myself a few modest meals while there (a tilapia filet, some macaroni & cheese), and then I was confounded in the attempt to prepare some canned snails. After improvising the opening of the can, then reading the instructions, I decided to wrap the can up and bring it home before determining if the shells are included inside the can. At home, I'll at least know where all the kitchen gadgets are. It might have been fun, though, know what Maguire thought of my best efforts. He may fail as a movie critic, but all cats have strong opinions about seafood.
