We woke at 4 a.m. to leave at 5 and catch the 8 a.m. ferry to Denmark. I realised that I had not driven in the dark in Norway in the whole time we were there, so leaving in darkness was strange.
We then had to drive across Denmark to catch the next ferry. After Norway, where it is rare to go more than 100kph even on a motorway, the Danes drive very fast. So we got to the next ferry very early, but that meant we were first on (and first off).
We had decided to pay the extra and travel Commodore class on the overnight crossing and that was worth it. The cabins were the size of proper hotel rooms, there was a lounge with free drinks and a view, and the other passengers were all quiet and inclined to read books or play board games. It made for a very pleasant journey.
There had been a gale in the morning so the North Sea was still pretty choppy and the swell rocked the boat a fair bit during the night. But we all have good sea legs and managed to have a good dinner before falling asleep early.
