Ground Cherries
A special gift from Red Barn Lavender in Ferndale, WA to my mother for some culinary experimentation. An odd sort of flavor, I found ground cherries to taste like a cross between a tomato and a grape - sweet, but with a bit of a tang. The size and texture is quite similar to a grape, as well. The outer husk is similar to its closest relative, the tomatillo. Unlike the tomatillo, however, ground cherries should not be eaten while green.
