Home away from Home
Flying visit to Dunedin for the day to visit my Uncle's family. On first appearance I thought I was back home as the city is so much like Edinburgh and Glasgow in its appearance. Grey brick buildings and the grey weather added to it.
Dunedin has very strong Scottish roots and in some ways takes greater pride in being able to call Robert Burns, Walter Scott and tartan kilts their own - or are I'm so used to these images of Scotland that I'm pretty jaded by it? I'm pretty sure there were the same number of 'Highland Tourist Shops' here as you get back home on the Royal Mile.
Regardless the number of people coming up to speak to me about Scotland and speak fondly of a place they've never been to, after hearing my accent can't help but make you take a greater pride in all things Scottish.
Hopefully will get some backblipping done this week!
