And bow...
Another "only in Japan" moment.
Went to check out the new ?uji Grand today while Y was tending the sick. Verdict: looks good! Would like to live next door to it.
It did tickle me though to watch the staff as they left the shop floor as I was waiting for the lift. There is obviously a company policy that says the staff must turn and face the shop floor and bow before they pass through the door. Not sure if they are bowing to the customers or the venerable institution that employs them, but they even have this little blue spot on the floor about 2 yards from the door, in case they forget exactly where they should bow. I saw at least 3 people do it, never one forgetting to stop and bow, regardless of the size of the box they were carrying or the cart they were pushing, whether anyone was looking or not.
Not sure if this is brilliant or sad.
