Close Encounter with an Alien's Eyes

Another beautiful day!! The weather has been so nice. I walked along a trail near my place and came across something familiar. I remember seeing this seed pod ( I believe) when I was a little girl.

When I saw the pic, it looked like an alien with 2 eyes..... really neat. Not sure what it is.....if anyone does know, please do tell.....I am very curious.
