Inarticulate Boy Wonder

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

I don't want to come over all Apple fan-boyish, but the news was quite sad.

There have been lots of tributes and also some people who have made a point of reminding us that Steve Jobs wasn't a hero. He didn't save lives, or stop wars or end famine. Of course, they're right - he invented things and some of the technology he produced has certainly helped people but he's no messiah.

I think the main reason he'll be missed is his ability to inspire people to reach beyond others expectations of themselves - as he, himself did. And anyone who battles cancer (win or lose) is a hero in my eyes - I've known too many of those heroes.

If you haven't seen his Stanford University commencement address from 2005, pour a cup of coffee and watch it here. If you're like me, you'll finish watching it and feel like rolling up your sleeves and doing something with your life.
