My, My! At Waterloo Napoleon Did Surrender...

...Probably didn't have the correct ticket!

Before the decision to rebuild it in 1899, Waterloo station was in fact a collection of stations-within-a-station There were 16 platforms, but only 10 platform numbers (some being duplicated!), 3 seperately operated underground stations & even a railway line that ran across the main concourse.
The confusion caused became the butt of music hall jokes.
In Jerome K. Jerome's classic "Three Men in a Boat" no station staff know the platform, departure time or destination of the required train.

No change there then!
