My Life Through My Lens

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

We decided to take it easy today and take a break from going into the city. We drove around and stopped in Sleepy Hollow. We drove into Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

I have never cared to walk around a cemetery before but something about this one just got to me. The mausoleum's were absolutely beautiful. Washington Irving, whose words immortalized Sleepy Hollow, is only one of many who chose its cemetery as their lasting retreat from the world. Its quiet natural beauty and profound calm have spoken as deeply to a diverse community of souls, including Walter Chrysler, Andrew Carnegie, Elizabeth Arden, William Rockefeller, Samuel Gompers, Thomas J. Watson, Sr., Jasper Francis Cropsey, Henry Sloan Coffin, Robert Havell, Mark Hellinger, Edward ?Major? Bowes, Whitelaw Reid, Henry Villard, Oswald Garrison Villard, Hans Zinsser, and Joseph Urban.

The one I chose was Walter Chrysler's. I chose this one because the 3 times that we walked near or past it, the area smelled of cotton candy.

This was my second choice. http://www.blipfolio.com/walkingpictures/on-my-walks#33999

There's so much history in the village of sleepy hollow and wished I had gone there sooner in our trip instead of the last day. :(

Nighty night blippers :)
