Day 6 - Horse Ride for Henry and Kyle

We covered around 25 miles today and totalled 9.5 hours in the saddle - our longest day yet. Cara put her endurance ride experience to the test and worked out timed check points for the ride with Mike to ensure we kept up the pace to and finished in daylight. There was a lot of road work to do in the morning as the section of the bridleway north of Wycoller is not yet open and we were restricted in how much trotting we could do not wanting to risk Lime going lame again. It was pretty cool going passed sign which read 'Welcome to North Yorkshire'.

It felt really rushed and a bit stressful doing the ride that way and it only lasted till late morning and then we lost track of it, encountered a mad loose horse that tried to round Osh and Lime up and got lost a couple of times in huge fields. But somehow we seemed to be covering the ground quicker than the other days.

This part of the bridleway felt more remote, like not many people had been there on horses before. The paths weren't as well trodden as further south - in fact in places they weren't trodden at all hence us going into massive fields and having to skirt round the edge to find our way out of them! On one occasion we did walk straight passed the exit gate in our excitement at the prospect of a good canter across a big field and after wandering right round the edge ended up pretty much back where we had gone in!

At one point we were crossing some fields with cattle in them and there was this huge black cloud behind us. We both looked at each other and said prepare to get soaked, which by that point we were so used to! The cloud got closer and closer until it was right overhead and it got really really windy, like we were in the middle of a storm. And then it just passed over and half an hour later the sun was out! It was so strange - we absolutely should have got soaked but I like to think our little angels Henry and Kyle helped to blow it over us! Think they realised we'd had enough!

Today felt like such an achievement. It was a big distance to cover at the end of a long week and the horses did us proud again. Lime has just been so amazing this week, taking everything in his stride. He is one in a trillion billion.
