Old buildings often feature details that show the extent to which the building has been planned and designed for a specific purpose. At St. Michael's College in Llandaff, Cardiff (http://www.stmichaels.ac.uk/), the architects went to the trouble of having SMTC emblazoned on the drainage fixtures. I'm guessing that SMTC stands for St. Michael's Theological College.
