Saracenic Gate Mougins, Alpes Maritime, France
This gate is all that remains of the ramparts of Mougins a fortified hill top village near Antibes in the South of France.
The area was raided by Saracens in the 8th and 9th centuries. This gate is supposed to date from that period.
Later Mougins became a refuge for the inhabitants from invaders from across the nearby border with Savoy.
The pretty village became the haunt of artists sand Picasso lived here in his exile.
