Memorial

I spent a few hours in Peebles today while friend did the Traquair to Yair Bridge section of the Southern Upland Way. Chanced upon the War Memorial in the courtyard of the Burgh Chambers. I

I have never seen anything like it, ever, in Scotland. However, it appears to be not only unique but famous:

"The beautiful, contemplative shrine which uniquely combines graceful Renaissance architecture and vibrant Moorish art commemorates those 541 men and women of Peeblesshire who fell in the Great War 1914-18 and the 110 who died in World War 1939-45. ......This (architectural) competition?s eventual winner was Burnett Orphoot (1880-1964), a prestigious Edinburgh architect who in his childhood had lived in the Eastgate at 'The Priory?. Or even more surprisingly:

I do wonder what those men actually thought of Earl Haig as they paraded in front of him.
