Pioneer Park
Monday
This morning was bright and sunny (before cloud and rain returned for the afternoon!), so I took advantage of it and went for a walk to Pioneer Park. Its funny how you can learn things about a place even after living there for years. I hadnt been to Pioneer Park much until a few years ago when a friend showed me a short cut footpath which made the park within more practical walking distance from home. Then I'd never really noticed this plaque before this morning - probably the blossom drew my attention - which explains the history behind the park's name.
"In the spring of 1795, 5 families from Orange County, New York set out on a journey that brought them to what is today Montgomery Ohio. They travelled overland to Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh), then by flatboat down the Ohio River to the Little Miami River and from there they proceeded along Sycamore Creek to the Present site where they erected cabins for the winter. The creek that runs through Pioneer Park is Sycamore Creek."
This evening was the band awards ice cream social at the High School. They always do a really nice job. They have banners with the seniors names hanging above the Commons where the event is held. They show video of the last four years marching band shows, and pictures and video of the year in review, including pictures of the seniors - they ask parents to send in a baby picture, a middle school picture and their senior picture - that parts always great fun! Then they give out the awards and of course there's cake and make-your own ice-cream sundaes. It was quite an emotional evening, as we've been connected with band for eight years now, as our son played trumpet in the band for the four years before Laura.
