Shhhhh....he thinks we can't see him!
We had a nice intermission this morning when the clouds disassembled to allow a bit of lovely sunshine to break through. Then the clouds returned and thickened, bringing sporadic douses of rain all afternoon.
When I went upstairs to do some chores, I could hear a cheerful song from the Chickadees coming through my open window. Grabbing the camera, I sat down and patiently awaited a capture. And I waited. And waited.
I was beginning to realize it just wasn't meant to be....all the little birdie voices I was hearing were coming from invisible critters! They had the sense to hide amongst the leaves as yet another strong shower tumbled down from the skies.
Just as I was about to close the window and put the camera away, I caught sight of a bright red "splotch"....aha! I know what that is! I sat once again, waiting for my subject to come out from hiding behind the leaves.
Slowly......slowly.....ever so slowly, the little chap made his way up the tree enough for me to quickly fire away. Although I thought I was openly visible from the window, little Downy Woodpecker turned his little head this way and that...as though curious to the sound of the camera's shutter.
This isn't such a great shot, but as the little fellow kept moving quickly, breaking open his booty of sunflower seed, I considered it an okay shot! Ah, I love a rainy autumn evening with nothing to do....such a cozy feeling!
