Snapshots of reality

It's been a beautiful day here in Edinburgh! Almost like the summer we never had, but sadly the only time I got to spend outside was over lunch (and a wasp landed on my finger!!!)

This is a matchstick bridge. This is also how we teach children in developing countries about engineering, and what engineers do. DIEM is a offshoot of the Edinburgh branch of Engineers Without Borders, and works to educate those in developing countries about technology in their own terms. For example, we teach them about friction by asking them to make a car out of wire and coke cans (which doesn't roll), then adding rubber bands which provide friction and so allow the car to move.
