Porcupine Journals - Day 1
"Anxious to leave my watery oasis. Nestled in bracken fern and paper birch skin. Painfully emerging back into the outside world like a dragonfly crawling from lake to land. Christina is here with me though- patient and good humored to guide me through this endless labyrinth. She is an awesome friend.
Blow a kiss goodbye to Douglas Lake out the window and it was a blur the next seven hours. Stretches of cheer broke up the trip though. Stopping for smoked whitefish on Superior, a surprise food co-op in Marquette, and meeting my lovely hosts in the Porcupine Mountains, Sherrie and Carol.
Settle in and unpack. Let the days events unwind and walk in the forest. So silent - a phoebe nest in the gutters, the rush of the brooke outside the window. Mossy birch trunks, jack in-the pulpit, and the tell-tale remains of a turtle nest by the bridge. Two holes and the leathery cases of reptilian egg shells in the sand."
As you can see the cabin is charming. Etched from fine cedar boughs and polished with simplicity. I am going to love it here...
