Alexander Reid by Van Gogh
One of my favourite paintings in Kelvingrove. The fact that it's a Van Gough and you can get right up to it and examine it in great detail is just fantastic - no security guards, no bothersome curators. In the same room there is a fantastic Monet as well which I'll blip later.
Here's the official blurb - quite interesting really!!
For many years thought to be a self-portrait, this is one of Glasgow's star pictures. Not only is it by one of the world's top artists, but it is the only known portrait of a British sitter. It is a superb portrait of Glasgow's most important nineteenth-century art dealer, who was also a friend of Van Gogh and helped Burrell collect so many fabulous French paintings.
