Euclid

It was a productive meeting with the postie this morning; the right garlic, after the previous debacle and also this book. (Work was a humdrum of hebetude, as the garlic meister might say.)

It's a faithful facsimile of a book that was first published in 1847. I've seen an original copy and although it was somewhat foxed, the colours really were this bright. Goodness knows what it cost to print originally. The facsimile is beautifully done, cloth-bound and in a nice box - I still can't believe how cheap it was, all things considered. But you don't have to buy it, the whole thing can be viewed online, page by page, here, foxing and all.

Byrne says in the introduction to his novel and colourful way of teaching Euclid "We are happy to find that the Elements of Mathematics now forms a considerable part of every fsound female education, therefore we call the attention of those interested or engaged in the education of ladies to this very attractive mode of communicating knowledge, and to the succeeding work for its future development".

Oh, and wee Stan came round for his bath and is now clean - result!
