Puran Chand

This 96 year old is a retired solider who lives in my village. He still walks about 2 miles every day and every time I go to my farm he walks up to meet me and have a cup of tea, as well as regail me with his tales of his service days...the tales I have heard from my childhood...and still give me and my children as much pleasure...the funniest being how the Japs ran away when his "paltan" (regiment) reached Burma...and he strongly believes that it was not the might of the Allies but the very name of Jat Regiment which put the fear of God in the hearts of Japanese and they surrendered...such innocence...of an illitrate colonized people!
